The department of English in the D.G.G arts college for Women, Mayiladuthurai is offering B.A., English course. The course was introduced in the year 1979-80. Every year 50 students are admitted to the course as per the government quota.

The course provides many attractive papers like Writing Skills, Language and Linguistics, Grammar and Usage, Journalism, Comparative Literature ,Theory and Practice of Translation.

 The department is producing more than 60 % of results every year and it has won the shield for scoring the highest percentage of results in Arts subjects.

Many University rank holders are produced and many of the students pursue the P.G degree course. Many of them work as Lecturers, Guest Lecturers and School Teachers in various institutions apart from our college. Learning English is the necessity of the “ Information Era “. There are many job opportunities for the students who have very good communicative skills in English.

As the importance of English language is felt, students are trained to have fluency in English. They are encouraged to write poems and present papers in the seminars. Literary association meetings and debates are conducted to illuminate the students.

Students are encouraged to participate actively in Co-curricular and Extra – curricular activities. Environmental science is taught to the first year students as a certificate course. Computer Literacy Programme is introduced to the students to make them face the challenges and threats of the third millennium.
